Area Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the public for tips.
An important political figure commented the incident left him speechless and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the death of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
